ECW NITRO 5-22-04
Paul Heyman appears in a pre-taped promo to tell the audience of tonight's special match between the Basham Brothers and Test & Scott Steiner. Heyman has booked the match as a trade match where the losers will be traded to Raw or Smackdown.

Opening Montage (now with Paul Heyman portrait at the end)

YOUR hosts: Jonathan Coachman (Coach), Al Snow (The Snowman), and Bill DeMott
Coach and Bill DeMott are the only ones at the announce table and they discuss the ramifications of the match. If Steiner and Test lose, they'll be gone. And if the Bashams lose, they'll be gone. While Test and Steiner make their way out to the ring, Al Snow comes to the announce table from through the crowd with a bag full of snacks. He proceeds to give DeMott a smaller bag from Taco Bell, and gives Coach a giant Slurpee. Al then gets on the air and states that tonight's NITRO will be the first NITRO presented completely commercial free. Coach corrects him that next week's NITRO will be aired commercial free. Al looks like he's just seen a ghost. He asks if they think Heyman will fire him. Both Coach and DeMott assure him that he's not getting the ax tonight for this.
Test & Scott Steiner def The Basham Brothers via Pinfall (Test Drive to Doug)
Coach and Al call the action during the first match, and Test takes early control of Danny Basham, only to miss a charge allowing Doug to tag in. Steiner tags in and he and Doug go toe to toe with suplexes on one another. Doug gets a standing leg lariat for a two count and Steiner tags in Test. Test drops Doug with a big boot, and when Danny tries to break up the pinfall, Test takes him up and over the top rope. Steiner and Danny battle it out on the outside, meanwhile, Doug goes for the leg lariat on Test and misses. Test picks him up and lands the Test Drive for the pinfall. Steiner and Test beat the Bashams down until they can't stand anymore, then leave waving to the Bashams all the way to the back.

Bill DeMott shows us his turning point in the match, and he chooses when Doug misses the leg lariat on Test. DeMott notes that when Doug hits that leg lariat, it is very difficult for anyone to get up. Coach and Al Snow remind us that this means the Bashams will be getting traded to one of the other shows. And they all three wonder who Heyman would be able to get in return for the Basham Brothers.
Rob Van Dam def Mark Jindrak via Pinfall (Five Star Frog Splash)
Mark Jindrak is shown from earlier in the day requesting that the match be no DQ, just like the ECW Championship matches will always be. Heyman reminds him that this is not for the title, but Jindrak wants it to be no DQ so that when it is for the title, he'll be ready. Heyman just shrugs his shoulders and says, "It's your funeral"

RVD takes early control with several forearm shots to the head, but Jindrak regains it with a high vertical stalling suplex. He holds the suplex for a good six seconds before bringing RVD down hard to the mat. Jindrak looks to be firmly in control when RVD suddenly gets a back heel kick in and the tide turns back to RVD. Rolling Thunder gets two. Split Legged Moonsault gets two. Rob is getting frustrated that he can't get the pinfall. Jindrak goes to take control but is greeted with a step over heel kick and then RVD hits the Five Star Frog Splash for the pinfall.

Heyman is backstage with Rhyno. He verbally degrades Rhyno for having lost to Rene Dupree. Rhyno gets fired up and tells Heyman that he will win tonight and then go on to get an ECW Championship shot next month.
Rhyno def Steven Richards via Pinfall (GORE, GORE, GORE™)
While Steven Richards is coming to the ring, Al Snow runs out behind him and over to the announce table carrying another back of goodies. He begins to distribute small bags of popcorn to the crowd behind the announce table while DeMott and Coach tell him that he is out of his mind. Al tells them that he had promised the guys right behind the announce table to run and get snacks during the commercial break since he had gotten the week of the commercial free show wrong. DeMott and Coach shake their heads and laugh at Al playing snacks vendor.

Rhyno comes out and jumps in the ring to get the match started. Richards gets the upper hand early and goes for the Stevie T, but it only gets two. Rhyno takes over with a giant spinebuster slam and from there sets up for the GORE GORE GORE!™ but misses when Steven Richards bails out of the ring. Back in and he gets the upper hand back with a series of punches, only to find himself the recipient of a textbook stalling vertical suplex. While he struggles to his feet, Rhyno sets up in the corner and hits the GORE GORE GORE™ for the pinfall. Al Snow stops distributing popcorn long enough to acknowledge that Rhyno has won the match. But goes right back to it as he promises a great match between Rey Mysterio and Christopher Nowinski later tonight.
Shelton Benjamin def Matt Hardy v1 via Disqualification (Rene-ference)
Al has run out of popcorn and promises that he will have a vendor come down with drinks soon for all his loyal fans. Coach and DeMott continue to laugh at Al and his silliness. Meanwhile, Shelton Benjamin comes to the ring to face Matt Hardy v1. Shelton gets on the mic and announces that he can't wait to face Rene Dupree next week as it will give him a chance to go on and face the winner of the RVD/Kurt Angle match next week. Shelton then promises that if Matt can beat him tonight, he will put his #1 contender spot on the line against Matt on the June 5th Nitro!

Matt Hardy comes out and it's time for Matt Facts!
Matt Fact - Matt has never won a Heavyweight Championship Belt
Matt Fact - Matt will be the ECW Champion before the end of the summer.

Matt Hardy takes the fight right to Shelton, who responds in kind. The two exchange chops and punches. Eventually they lock up and Matt gets a back body drop out of an Irish Whip. Shelton returns the favor. DeMott notes that they appear to be very evenly matched and this could become a candidate for matchup of the year within ECW. He also notes that the matchup of the year candidate will be booked as a match for Starrcade in December. Shelton takes control after a pair of nice lariats off of reversals. And as he is setting up to go for the Money Maker, Rene Dupree explodes out of the crowd and flattens him with the French Phenom Slam. The referee calls for the bell and orders a disqualification. Coach, and Bill DeMott are dumbfounded and Al says to them that he saw Dupree coming a mile away. In fact, that is about how far he had to go to get to the concessions and that's when he had seen Dupree. Dupree was at the Starbucks in the arena sipping a mocha latte and talking about how he was going to destroy Shelton tonight and again next week.

Christopher Nowinski def Rey Mysterio via Pinfall (Chavo-Ference) to win the ECW Television Championship
Christopher Nowinski comes out to a chorus of boos. Al notes that the crowd apparantly doesn't like him. He promises to take Rey Mysterio 'to school' tonight, and then take his Television Championship. Rey Mysterio comes out and the crowd goes nuts. The match is all Rey from the start with Rey hitting the 619 quickly on the Harvard Grad. As Rey goes up for the West Coast Pop, Nowinski slams the ropes out form under his feet. Rey manages to land on his feet and hits a Rube Goldberg Bulldog for a two count. Chavo Guerrero makes his way down to ringside during the match and watches intently while Rey is working to get a pinfall on Nowinski. The Harvard Grad reverses an Irish Whip and Chavo low bridges Rey and sends him into the STEEEEEEL Steps. Chavo rolls Rey back in and Nowinski lands a Harvard Slam¹ for the pinfall and his first championship as a professional wrestler. Nowinski celebrates like there is no tomorrow and Chavo continues a beatdown of Rey Mysterio.

Bill DeMott calls the result a travesty of justice and calls for Heyman to make a rematch for next week. Coach syas that Nowinski has won the Television Title in a disgraceful fashion, and Al asks what just happened. Coach runs down the big matches for next week:
Shelton Benajmin v Rene Dupree for the #1 Contender spot for the ECW Championship
Nowinski will defend his Television Title
Kurt Angle defends his ECW Championship against "Mr Saturday Night" Rob Van Dam!
